From the Rock to the Rockies
The RVH Foundation
Local teachers Nancy Newman, Aaryn Coutts and James Carson are pedalling their way from Cape Spear, Newfoundland to Vancouver, British Columbia to raise funds for educational programming for the Child and Youth Mental Health program at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. They will cycle 7600 kilometres (4750 miles) in July and August, 2019.
The trio say they are motivated to help youth, as they see first hand in their educator roles the challenges some students face, including mental health.
Nancy is an avid cyclist; a former road bike racer who specializes in endurance riding. She enjoys the changing seasons on the roads and trails around the Collingwood and surrounding area while on her bike, snowshoes or skis. She has participated in a variety of fundraising events over the years.
James models an active lifestyle as an elementary Physical Education teacher. He enjoys all types of sport, spending time with his family, and helping others. James is passionate about being a mental health advocate, and is looking forward to crossing Canada to help as many young people as possible.
Aaryn is a passionate cyclist who highly enjoys being on her bike and riding with friends. She loves exploring, adventuring and cruising throughout Barrie and the surrounding area on two wheels. Aaryn came into cycling through her participation in a variety of charity bike riding events in support of stroke and cancer research. Raising awareness for mental health is a cause that is close to her heart. She is honoured and elated to be joining James and Nancy on this epic adventure across Canada.
