SideDoor opened in 1995 and provides services and supports to vulnerable youth; with specialized supports for youth experiencing homelessness.
Originally opening as a Drop-In Youth Centre in 1995 SideDoor has grown exponentially, now operating :
1. Hope's Haven - Transitional Housing and Supports for Youth Experiencing Homelessness (opened June 12, 2015) at 5114-52nd Street.
2. Emergency Shelter for youth experiencing homelessness (since 2005)
3. Resource Centre for YOUth at 4903-50th Street
OPEN Monday: 12:30pm - 5pm and Tuesday to Saturday: 12:30pm - 10pm (Closed daily 5-6pm).
Supports include: - Employment and Literacy, - Housing and Tenancy, - Practical Supports and Life Skills, and - Mental Health and Addictions supports.
LUNCH: 12:30pm Monday to Saturday
The Resource Centre provides a day shelter, meals and snacks, laundry and shower facilities, hygiene products, computers, telephone, fax, etc.
4. Drop-In Centre at 4903-50th Street 6-10pm Tuesday to Saturday provide a safe alternative to Yellowknife streets including practical supports and life skills: meal served at 6pm, recreation, cultural and social supports, etc.
DINNER: 6pm Tuesday to Saturday
The SideDoor exists to instil values, character and community that will empower Northern youth to find fulfilment (HOPE) by providing a safe haven and practical supports. We are committed to preventing, reducing and ending youth homelessness in Yellowknife for youth, ages 15-24.
