To enable seniors to maintain residency in the Slocan Valley by providing affordable housing and support services.
A supportive community with enhanced opportunities to enable seniors – inclusive of ethnic origins, abilities and disabilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, race or religion – to remain an integral part of community life.
In 1999 our Society opened Passmore Lodge, ten suites of subsidized independent seniors’ housing on two beautiful acres near the Slocan River in the rural Slocan Valley. The results have been both for our tenants and our community that our dedicated volunteers, our facility and our programs reduce isolation and helps seniors stay healthy longer. We do this by offering free yoga, exercise, and art therapy classes; we also host a monthly visit by the Nelson Public Library, and provide space for events for mixed ages, such as the intergenerational café, as well as a variety of workshops.
The Slocan Valley Seniors’ Housing Society enjoys widespread community support, which is crucial as we raise funds to increase the stock of beautiful, affordable, safe rental housing in our rural valley in British Columbia.
We are currently raising funds to build 12 affordable rental suites in the heart of the Village of Slocan, located 30 kms north of Passmore on the pristine Slocan Lake. See www.slocancity.com
You can help us in this exciting project by making a one time donation or monthly donation to our "Slocan Housing Project" Fund.
What People Are Saying
"I love living at Passmore Lodge. I am safe, thanks to the senior safety aids in the bathroom, shower wall handles, etc. I like living in the country instead of a city. All my needs for transportation are handy and affordable. I feel very fortunate and grateful."
