Believe it or not, only 5% of the Thousand Islands Watershed is conserved in all of the parks, conservation areas, and land trust properties. Science tells us that the minimum amount of natural spaces needed to support species and ecosystem services is 30%. We have a long way to go.
TIWLT has set the ambitious goal of protecting an additional 1000 acres of land in our working area, strategically placed for the benefit of species at risk and ecosystem services. Anchored in Leeder's Creek, the Challenge will bring us all over the watershed, including properties from the headwaters all the way to the Thousand Islands. We're protecting the wetlands that clean and control your water. We're protecting the habitat for endangered fish and turtles. But most of all, we're protecting the residents of the area against the effects of climate change - what we've already seen, and what will come to be. All of the properties that we protect are protected forever.
Support our goal today, and join us in being a part of forever.
