Every child has a backpack -- every backpack has a child is the cornerstone philosophy behind the United Way's annual Backpack Program. The United Way wants school to be a positive experience for all children, regardless of their economic situation.
You can thank a teacher, educational assistant and/or an ECE with a donation to the Backpack Program. Be sure to include the name, school and if possible, the email address of the teacher and we will let them know a donation has been made in their honour. We can also send you an e-card to share with them or print off.
If you wish, please let us know your child's first name and the school.
By providing school supplies to low income children, the you are providing the tools needed, for children, to start off the school year ready to learn.
Since 2005, donors have helped us distribute over 25 000 backpacks throughout Bruce and Grey Counties.
We need your help to meet this growing need. In 2019 over 2 300 kids from low income homes received a backpack through this program!
We work with wholesalers to get the best price, below are the retail costs of a fully stocked backpack:
Primary Backpack - $35
Intermediate Backpack - $60
Senior Backpack - $75
High School Backpack - $110
