As September opens, I am sure that, like me, you’re looking forward to beginning another musical season and seeing fellow choristers again. We had an extraordinary year of learning and performance in 2018-19, thanks to Jenny’s leadership and superb artistry. We also benefited greatly from our very talented leads. I think you’ll agree that we’ve been fortunate to have these remarkable young singers to enrich both our musical lives and those of our audiences.
As a long-time VOCA singer, I know how valuable our section leads are. As mentors they guide and support us musically to develop technique, intonation and interpretation. Many of our leads have gone on to achieve considerable distinction as both choristers and soloists, and they have all been incredibly generous in sharing their substantial musical training, experience, and their beautiful voices. They help us all to sing to our highest potential by setting an example of the best in the field. For several seasons, they’ve also generously donated to some of our fundraising efforts, including performing at our Cabaret and offering items for our Silent Auction.
As you know, these artists deserve fair compensation for the important role that they play in helping us all to be our musical best, last year the choir gave generously to our Leads Campaign. The board of VOCA is once again asking our choristers and friends of the choir for charitable donations to support our leads.
I am writing to ask you to contribute to this ongoing fundraising initiative of the VOCA Chorus of Toronto. To meet our goal, we are asking for assistance from both choir members and our loyal audiences. We have set a target of $5,000 for this campaign. It will allow us to continue providing fair compensation for our leads, to have them available for our sectionals and retreats, and to provide Jenny with the flexibility to add additional guest singers as required for artistic reasons.
Thank you on behalf of the board and VOCA Chorus of Toronto,
Mark J. Gold,
Treasurer, VOCA Chorus of Toronto
