We recognize the devastating effects that COVID-19 could have on Indigenous communities, where many drinking water challenges persist and available resources can be stretched thinly even at the best of times - especially in remote locations.
Our Indigenous partners are taking the lead in protecting their communities. And we fully support their decisions.
In the coming weeks and months, we had planned to be in many Indigenous communities across Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Labrador to train young Indigenous adults and engage Indigenous school students with hands-on water science lessons. Given recent events, we need to take a step back and determine how we’ll adapt and deliver our programs.
Let’s keep the momentum going.
During this time of uncertainty, we’ll be investing our time into three key areas that we know lead to success, and that consistently set Water First apart:
Trust building: Ensuring that honesty, respect, transparency, humility and integrity are fundamental to our engagements;
Meaningful partnerships: Fully committing to collaboration, wide-open communication lines, mutual knowledge exchanges and common goals;
Pursuing lasting results. Consistently striving toward sustainable outcomes, with skills and benefits remaining within First Nations communities for the long-term.
By becoming a dedicated supporter, you’ll know how you can be part of the solution. Now more than ever, you can continue to make a difference supporting clean water in First Nations communities.
