There is a critical need in our community for families of children with special needs and it’s growing more extreme every day. Due to recent funding cuts, and the shifting landscape of service provision, exceptional families need support more than ever before.
Navigating local services and supports is overwhelming and daunting, even for seasoned professionals. It’s much easier when you have a helping hand to guide you. Erin, our Family Resource Coach, provides this helping hand – connecting families to valuable information and vital resources through all life stages. Current demand from families in our community exceeds our staffing capacity and we know this will only continue to increase during these unsettled and uncertain times. In response, we must expand Erin’s role to meet this growing need. We are asking for your financial support to extend this service to all deserving families.
Over the past year, our network has grown by a rate of 30% and by 18% in the past six months. Of 310 new families since December, 233 accessed Family Resource Coach support, specifically. Over the same period, 128 previously-connected families also reached out to access new resources as they experienced changing needs or a new life stage. That’s 361 families directly served and impacted through this personalized support over six months. The most common needs supported include Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, mental health, sensory processing issues and physical disabilities.
As a peer-developed and peer-driven network, WRFN is uniquely able to understand the needs of exceptional families. Our overarching purpose is to serve the family, to support the child. Please join us during these challenging times and donate today. With your support, all exceptional families in Waterloo Region will continue to thrive.
