Keep our Spiritual Messages Alive in Bloor West!

Help us purchase a permanently installed illuminated changeable sign at Windermere United!

When we heard the brave step the church took to stand up for the human rights of others, we knew we wanted to stand up with them. To learn more about what happened:  Rev. Alexa talks to Gill Deacan on CBC and Toronto Star picks up the story

As neighbours to Windermere United Church, many of us looked forward to reading the messages of love and hope for all found on the outdoor sign. When the sign was removed, it was sorely missed. As community members, we feel strongly that the sign needs to have a permanent home outside the church. The messages of inclusivity, tolerance, and faith and love are messages that resonate with all of us.

When the sign was taken from us, because we asked the sign rental company to include messages that celebrate the LGBTQ2+ and Muslim communities, we were devastated. We knew as congregants that we couldn’t be complicit and we decided to stand up for the rights of all. We were deeply moved by the outpouring of support from our neighbours and by their decision to stand in solidarity with us. We knew a permanent sign wasn’t in our budget. Your donations give us hope that we’ll soon be putting up our Spiritual Exercises once more.

Why does it cost so much? With variances, installation, electrical work, labour, and materials, these permanent signs are not cheap. That is why Windermere had to rent a temporary sign. Let’s make sure they are never censored from sharing inspiring message ever again. It’s worth the cost.

What will happen if we raise more than we need? In the spirit of welcoming all, the church will use any extra funds raised on making the building more accessible to people with mobility challenges.
