For the first time in our history, World Vision has declared a Global Health Emergency Response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The disease has already infected more than a million people, is spreading rapidly across almost every country and has to date claimed tens of thousands of lives. World Vision has taken this step because the scale and spread of this disease presents an unprecedented threat, not only to the lives and wellbeing of children and communities now, but also to the decades of progress we have made in lifting children and communities sustainably out of poverty.
We have health experts and well-trained rapid response teams in place who have extensive experience in controlling some of the worst infectious disease outbreaks in the past century. World Vision teams have helped communities and entire nations manage outbreaks of lethal diseases such as Ebola and the Zika virus. Our emergency response to COVID-19, with your support, will build on our successful efforts in countries like China, where we are already reaching 1.3 million people with tools to fight the disease, from masks and bottles of sanitizer to awareness on how everyone from health care providers to ordinary citizens can play an important role in slowing the spread of this deadly virus.
By supporting World Vision’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, you will help scale up preventative measures to slow the spread, strengthen health systems and advocate for the protection of vulnerable children and families impacted by the virus by providing life-saving essentials, access to education and more.
