Music has the power to cross boundaries and carry our spirits into new worlds.  In an evening packed with variety, Director Roxanne Martel has blended many genres and musical cultures. Our music leads to pilgrimage, with a traditional spiritual, “The Storm is Passing Over,” a Kenyan praise song, a Hungarian “Song to Mary” and Norwegian “Song of the Earth.”  It transports us into love with “Underneath the Stars” and a new take on “The Song of Solomon” inspired by the Northern Lights. The trip is an adventure, as we’re crossing rivers and bridging new challenges with Carly Simon’s “Let the River Run” and the traditional folk song “Shenandoah.” The hypnotic power of the samba carries us away to Argentina for some timely heat in “Zapata se Queda.”  Music can be a welcome escape route, with Yeats’s “I Will Arise and Go” to the lake isle of Innisfree and with Tchaikovsky’s “Nightingale” fleeing winter’s icy blasts. For 15th Century's Charles d’Orléans, winter is a villain we resent, and yet we also celebrate its magic back home with Gordon Lightfoot in “Whispers of the North.”   We go around the world in music, and you’re invited to come along to share in the fun.

We are pleased to feature gifted pianist Oksana Zotova as our accompanist, and invited musical guest Jeff May completes the rhythm section for your evening’s entertainment.

Our charity partner for this session is Welcome Collective, a non-profit organization under the YMCA umbrella working with individuals and community groups across Montreal to help the most vulnerable newly-arrived asylum seekers gather the essential items they need to live and to integrate into their new homes.  Vulnerable families are the priority:  single mothers with small children, pregnant women, families with several small children, and the disabled.
