The Alberta TrailNet Society (Alberta TrailNet) was incorporated in 1989 as a charitable non-profit society.  Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, Alberta TrailNet is dedicated to promoting the development of a provincial network of shared use trails known as the Wild Rose Trail System.  All provincial user group associations (hiking, Cross County Alberta, Alberta Bike Assn., Alberta Equestrian Federation, Alberta Snowmobile Assn., Alberta Off Highway Vehicle Assn.) are represented on Alberta TrailNet's Board.  In 1994 Alberta TrailNet agreed to represent, and was recognized by the Trans Canada Trail Foundation as the provincial trail council responsible for implementing the Trans Canada Trail in Alberta.
