TAPS provides free face-to-face legal information, advocacy and assistance with and representation at appeals and hearings in the areas of income assistance and tenancy legislation.  This service is provided to persons with low-incomes living in the Greater Victoria area.  TAPS, for examples, assists people receiving eviction notices, having difficulty accessing income assistance benefits including application for disability benefits.  TAPS also provides training and workshops to the public and community groups regarding a person’s rights and responsibilities in the areas of income assistance and tenancy legislation. The TAPS Tenant Legal Advocacy Project aims to enhance access to justice by providing unique legal advocacy services to the tenant community of Greater Victoria and the surrounding region. On any given day our advocates are busy fighting evictions, helping tenants secure necessary repairs in their rental units, and making sure tenants are fairly compensated when their rights are neglected.

We dream of a world where the government fully funds our work, or better yet when our tenancy laws are finally fixed to prevent the exploitation of marginalized people in housing, but until then we hope you will consider giving to our program so our clients have a place to turn when they face harassment, are threatened with renoviction, or when their building falls into disrepair.
