Support linguistic and cultural survival in the Central Canadian Arctic.

Inuinnaqtun—the foundation of Inuinnait culture—has less than 600 speakers remaining. The residential school experience is an intergenerational trauma that has caused language loss and cultural disconnection.

We are facing an urgent timeframe since it is estimated that within two generations Inuinnaqtun will be extinct.

To reverse the trend of language and knowledge loss, we're launching a Mentor-Apprentice Program in 2020—an approach that has proven successful in saving endangered languages around the world by pairing a fluent speaker with a language learner for 300 hours of immersion. Donations to the Mentor-Apprentice Program will directly support and empower Inuinnait to reclaim their language and strengthen their connection to Elders, traditional knowledge, and an Inuinnait worldview.

NOTE: With all of the generosity happening today for #GivingTuesday, CanadaHelps is experiencing some technical difficulties. If you receive an error message when trying to donate, please try again.
