Legal Defence Fund - Philippines

People in the Philippines are suffering grave injustices at the hands of state-sanctioned police and military brutality. Victims of human rights violations and human rights defenders face criminal charges filed against them as a result of their political beliefs or their human rights work, and many have little or no access to legal defense.

Your gift to the Legal Defense Fund helps defray regular expenses incurred by victims of human rights abuses in the Philippines. It will provide legal representation to those in need, assist with posting bail bond to allow temporary liberty to those who have been jailed, cover the cost of the transcript of stenographic notes and ease the burden of transportation and other expenses of relatives of political prisoners, lawyers and para-legals during hearings and cases conferences. Plus, your gift will be invested, ensuring that this assistance will continue to be available for those who need it.

The National Council of Churches in the Philippines, a Mission & Service partner of the United Church of Canada, oversees the distribution of funds.
