The solid foundation that exists today within The Horse Connection Inc. began 15 years ago as a university project in Applied Counselling. Our Equine Alternative Learning Program developed out of the recognition of the importance and need to keep “at risk” youth engaged and in school. Using horses and the teaching of horsemanship as an instrumental tool to facilitate and to foster growth of unlimited life skills was how we envisioned responding to this need. 
The Horse Connection Inc. was founded and became a registered non-profit charitable organization in 2001, after which a 2-year pilot project was launched in 2002 with the Pembina Trails School Division. There is a strong consensus amongst the school division, schools, and the various governments social, health, youth and community services that have been involved in our program that there is a continuous need for the expansion of this unique type of school programming.

Urban Stable provides experiential learning through horsemanship to youth facing challenges to help them develop social and emotional skills

Growing up can be tough. Students often experience stress and isolation from not connecting to their peers or feeling unsuccessful in classes. Urban Stable offers a unique form of experiential learning for students where they can gain confidence and connection as they interact and participate in hands-on horse activities. 

Sponsorship enables Urban Stable to enrich young learners by engaging and empowering them to face life's challenges in a safe, caring, and supportive environment that provides the opportunity for youth to unbridle their potential.
