The KNOR Foundation for Cancer Research is a namesake, charitable organisation established in honour of a mother, humanitarian and community philanthropist, Harriet Knor.

The Foundation was founded in 2007 by a group of Cobourg women who were touched by the determination of a young student.  Kristy MacDonald was third-year biology student (and childhood friend of Harriet’s daughter, Leah), who, upon learning of Harriet’s diagnosis, aspired to find a summer placement in a cancer lab.  However, the limited funding and resources available to undergraduate students in Canada made it impossible for Kristy to find a clinic or professor that could afford to accept her.

It is this story that inspired the KNOR core values—Knowledge, New Minds, Opportunity and Research—along with the women’s commitment to ensure that aspiring students have the chance to make a difference in their community and in the lives of people living with cancer.

 Local Food for Local Good facilitates and supports local food initiatives that connects real people to real food.

LFFLG is committed to nourishing our neighbourhoods across Northumberland County.  Our goal is to provide families, individuals, seniors, children and youth with access to healthy food and basic essentials to support their well-being.    

Our FoodCare Holiday Hamper Program is a collaboration with Copeland Realty, Prep Food Co., Burnham Family Farm Market and several local small businesses to prepare and deliver a traditional holiday meal with all the trimmings and a hamper filled with fresh produce, healthy snacks and local goods.  Hampers are prepared and packaged on December 23rd and delivered by volunteers on Christmas Eve.  Our community outreach is coordinated through local agencies and referrals.  100% of your donation goes towards the purchase of food for the holiday hampers.
