IAF provides micro loans to immigrants who lack the financial resources to pay for the Canadian licensing or training that will allow them to work in their field. IAF loans are helping immigrants move out of low-level/low-income "survival" jobs, increasing their capacity and self reliance.

Loans may be used for exam fees, travel costs to sit an exam, books and course materials, qualification assessments, professional association fees, living allowance while studying, and other costs related to becoming able to work in their field.
