#SaveRedDoor

Here at CanadaHelps, we pride ourselves on being an advocate and voice for small and medium sized charities all across Canada. Recently, we learned that the future of the Red Door Shelter – an organization that provides support for families experiencing a housing crisis or fleeing domestic violence – is being threatened by a condominium development.

Located on Queen St. East in Toronto, the Red Door has been providing services for over 30 years to families and individuals who need safe and supportive emergency shelter. Over the years, they have grown to become one of the largest family shelters in the city of Toronto, and they provide shelter and support to over 500 families each year.

The property on Queen was purchased by a real estate developer, who agreed to rebuild the shelter as part of their redevelopment of the site. However, it is now in receivership and the receiver is planning to sell the site to another developer who intends to build condos on the site. Neither group has provided Red Door Shelter with any concrete plans for their future.

Save the Red Door Petition PageSign the petition to help ensure that all parties involved know how important it is to Torontonians that this amazing organization will continue to have a home to serve families in need for years to come.
