Dear friends, family and associates,
As an Iranian Canadian, I was saddened by tragedy that killed 176 innocent lives aboard Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 in Iran on Jan 8, 2020.
Back in 1988, when I was just a 14-year-old boy living in Dubai with my family, a similar event happened. Namely, an Iranian Airline flying from Tehran to Dubai (via Bandar Abbas) was shot down over the Persian Gulf. Sadly, 290 people on board were killed. In this tragic event one of my best friends lost his father. At the time, I was too young to comprehend what had happened, but I remember feeling very sad and helpless. In thinking about my friend I often asked myself why this needed to happen to innocent people. I never forgot that event.
When I heard about the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 in Iran, it took me back to 1988, refreshing the same feelings. This time as an adult, instead of feeling helpless, I asked myself what I can do and how I can help.
I would like to help the families that lost loved ones in this tragedy. I have found a fundraiser started by Mohamad Fakih of Paramount fine foods. It is aimed to support the families of those killed aboard Ukraine International Airlines Flight. I have reached out to his office, as I would also like to join and contribute my assistance. The fundraiser is under a national campaign, called Canada Strong. The aim is to raise $1.5-million for families of the 57 Canadian victims.
I have personally pledged to this fund and would encourage you to help me raise funds to reach the campaign goals, your donations will go a long way for a great cause.
Canadian Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $25 or more.
