Some of you may know that I keep an online alias as 61gabester -- 61 means June 1st, which is, well, the day of my birthday. That's right: It's my birthday, and I'm incredibly fortunate to be celebrating it with loved ones, which is why the rest of this online page exists. Let's do some donating.
This year, though, I've decided to really commit to the bit. 61 is a special number for me, so while $305--Pitbull's special number--is our target, I'll be matching donations to two very special charities up to that point for a total of $610. Anything beyond that is just gravy, and I hope we get to gravy.
The two charities, one for each special city in my life:
1. The Children's Book Bank is a lovely literacy-focused organization based out of Regent Park in Toronto. They aim to get books and literacy materials into the hands of low-income families, and, as a lifelong reader myself, I really want to help them fill kids' backpacks with some really awesome books.
2. The Jewish General Hospital in Montreal is doing fantastic work during this pandemic. They've set up a COVID-19 Fund for their urgent research, PPE purchases, and support of frontline workers.
