The pandemic is dragging on, and families are suffering. Food insecurity affects 10% of all households in the Region of Waterloo. That means at least 19,500 people. And the food bank numbers are increasing.
My family had to use emergency food hamper services about 15 years ago, and I have to say that it was eye-opening. Trying to feed a three year old using ramen noodles and tins of tuna was... difficult at best. Demoralizing and impossible, to be truly honest. And I don't want anyone else to be in that place, too. It's harsh and unfair.
Kids are already in a difficult place. They can't see family members. They can't see friends. Everything is strange and scary. To be hungry on top of that is just too much.
Spring is coming. Vaccinations are coming. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel but we just need a little push to get there. Maybe we can help a few kids have an easier time along the way.
