What better way to social distance than skeet through the city on 8 wheels? My name is Liza, and I really really love rollerblading. I wanted to jump on this opportunity to participate in the #RollerbladeChallenge where I'll skate a marathon and raise money for a charity of my choice. I've chosen to donate to Scarborough Women's Centre (SWC- http://www.scarboroughwomenscentre.ca), and I hope you will help me reach my goal of raising $4,200 to provide free webinars, workshops, and support to women with disabilities. My heart (and donation dollars) goes out to the women living through abuse, extreme isolation, and those with a lack of resources during this pandemic. Let's make the world a kinder place, and lend a helping hand to those who could use some support.
I'd like to dedicate this fundraiser to my friend, Crisa, who has a golden sense of humour and is spicier than a jalapeño pepper. She has opened up my eyes to some of the challenges that women with disabilities face, and I hope that through this donation we can help women facing similar challenges thrive and succeed in a world that unfortunately does not cater to their needs.
SWC is a non-profit organization that focuses on helping women of diverse backgrounds through isolation, abuse, newcomer integration, emotional health, and challenges related to employment. They have an incredible impact for the women within the community looking for support, and depend on donations like this to be able to offer their free, life-changing services. SWC provides women with free confidential counselling, and access to workshops where they can learn about financial planning, family law, healthy relationships, and so much more. This donation will be directed to the "Expanding The Reach: Outreach to Women with Disabilities" program, where money that we raise will support webinars, resources, advocacy tools, and leadership development for women with disabilities.
To spice things up I've partnered with THE rollerblade store ShopTask, a skate and service shop in downtown Toronto, who has graciously agreed to donate a $200 gift card to one lucky winner who enters the draw. To be eligible you will need to reside in Canada, include your name in the donation, and send an email to email@example.com with your name and contact info to be notified if you've won.
Scarborough Women's Centre is a registered charity, so you will be able to claim a tax deduction for your donation. I feel so lucky to know so many generous, and philanthropic people who care to spread kindness and resources. Your donation means so much to me, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Marathon day is July 10th (weather depending) and I will be recording the skate. The route will be posted closer to the date. Stay tuned!!!
