Precious Jewels is a charity that supports street children, orphans, and AIDS victims in the Philippines, and displaced people in Uganda. This charity depends on the generosity of donors to run its programs. So many children are affected by poverty, disease and conflicts, and desperately need people and places where they can receive food, a safe home, medical support, crisis counseling, and genuine love. Precious Jewels is providing these for many children and families who have nothing and no where to go except the streets.
I would like to use my love of kayaking to support this charity by creating fund-raising events in various places in British Columbia that involve endurance kayaking. An example might be paddling the length of Okanagan Lake (Vernon to Penticton) or even include Skaha Lake. I and other serious kayakers would approach their church and social networks for sponsors and set up a date to carry out these events. All funds would go to helping Precious Jewels continue to carry out their missionary efforts in the Philippines and Uganda.
