My name is Mark and I am shaving my head for Breast Cancer.
For the last 2 years I have been growing my hair and it is now almost to the middle of my back. As much as I love my long hair, it is time for it to go.
I am starting Grade 7 in the fall and want to be on the basketball team. My hair is to thick and heavy to be running around and playing sports, so it is time to come off.
I am well known for my hair at my school (many teachers, and even some students, comment on it), so I thought I could have fun with cutting it off by letting one of my favourite teachers shave my head. Then, in March I found out my mom's best friend and a lady I call Auntie Jen has breast cancer. She needs to have surgery in July to try and get rid of it. My Auntie is amazing, and after talking to my mom I decided I could do something to honour her and get rid of my hair at the same time. So, I decided to shave my head to raise money for Breast Cancer.
I think it is an important cause. Seeing my Auntie, a strong amazing woman, get cancer (she has no family history of Breast Cancer) has shown me that anyone can be affected by this awful disease. It could even have been my mom or my sisters. So by shaving my head to raise funds for Breast Cancer research, I can do my part to help the many women warriors in the world who have had, will have and do have this terrible disease. As well as honour those who have lost the battle.
I thank you for any and all support you can give to this noble cause.
