Syrian refugees experience desperate circumstances daily, as this humanitarian crisis continues to destroy lives. Help sponsor a family of 10, who are relatives of local Uxbridge friends and have spent eight years in Lebanon, without a home. The family has limited shelter, little access to employment and education, lacks safety and security, and has little hope for the future. The situation only declines as the global pandemic and the recent bombings in Beirut make conditions worse. As citizens of Canada we live in vibrant communities, with the ability to make a humanitarian difference today.
Our group of Port Perry and Uxbridge residents, called North Durham Refugee Reunification, has joined forces with the Hope Church of Port Perry, who provides critical adminstirative support at the national and local level. Without this support, this sponsorship would not be possible.
In December 2020, we updated and refined our budget using guidance from the federal government, tools from our Sponsorship Agreement Holder and our own research into the local cost of living. We estimate that we will need $130,000 to support the family of 10 for one year, as required by the federal government. We have raised $70,000 so far, and are working on raising the remaining $60,000.
If you would like to help bring this family to safety, reunite them with their relatives in North Durham, and give them hope for a new life, please make an online donation. A tax receipt will be issued to you for your donation.
