I am Lalaine Alfaro. At present, I have put aside my work life as an Accountant of Postmedia Network Inc. for my medical treatment.
My lung cancer journey began on Dec 4, 2019. In early Jan 2020 after biopsies and genetic tests, I received a diagnosis of Stage IV Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer with ALK Positive gene rearrangement and Brain Metastasis. My first line of treatment is a second-generation Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor. Amazingly, I have been stable and enjoying a normal life.
RESEARCH really saves lives and even matters. Thanks also to my healthcare team at Cancer Care Manitoba. After attending many virtual Lung Cancer summits, these have made me realized more research funds have to be raised to prolong the lifespans of lung cancer patients.
For my first fundraising experience, I chose the Lung Cancer Canada’s Geoffrey Ogram Memorial Research Grant. This grant has supported scientists for the advancement in lung cancer research programs in Canada. I hope for your great support. Thank you in advance.
