I have COVID hair...help me get rid of all of it!
I had my last haircut in January 2020, when I heard about COVID-19 for the first time. I decided not to get another haircut until two weeks after I got my vaccination. 15 months on, my hair is past my shoulders for the first time since I was a teenager!
I got my first vaccination on April 14. I can't wait to get rid of all of this hair!
UPDATE: The Head Shave is happening on Sunday May 2 at 1:00 pm Pacific Time. Register on the PADS Tune-In Tuesday page to get the Zoom link, or watch on Facebook Live.
I have been a volunteer puppy raiser and fund raiser for PADS since 2000. So it just makes sense to me to use this momentous occasion (ha!) to raise some money for PADS.
I'm asking donors to support my head shave with gifts to support the PADS Advanced Training Program. I will match all donations up to a total of $5,000, for a possible total of up to $10,000.
Advanced Training is the 6-9 month period when dogs learn specific skills from PADS professional trainers -- everything from opening a door or picking up dropped objects, to alerting their partner to specific sounds to a helping a person with PTSD manage a flashback. Once a dog completes Advanced Training he or she is ready to be matched with a human partner, and a career of happy and valuable service!
My hair will be shaved off in two stages, first with electric shears to less than an inch, and then blade shaved to baldness.
Top donors will have the opportunity to actually do the clipping or shaving! We're also looking at incentives for donors who give at certain to-be-determined thresholds. e.g. $100, $250, $500, etc. More info to come!
We will video the whole event for PADS and public presentations. I am happy to meet virtually with anyone who wants to see how long my hair is right now.
I will donate all my hair to a group that makes wigs for pediatric cancer patients at BC Children's Hospital.
