Witches' Brew by Rebecca Mader & Main Street Brewing - Fundraiser for the DEWC's New Kitchen Equipment - $70,000 Goal

Like her character, the Wicked Witch Of The West, Rebecca Mader had grown green with envy, ever since her good friends Colin & Sean brewed their ‘By Hook Or By Crook’ Bohemian Pilsner, in the process of raising funds for the Downtown Eastside Women’s Shelter. Not to be outdone, Rebecca decided to create a little magic of her own in the form of this tasty Schwarzbier, a Witches' Brew so magical, it will send your tastes buds to Oz and back.

Rebecca and Main Street Brewing are joining forces to raise some much needed funds to help the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre realize their dream of replacing the well-used and worn out kitchen equipment in order to provide even more hot meals to our most vulnerable citizens, the women and children of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. 

Founded in 1978, DEWC is one of the few safe spaces within the Downtown Eastside exclusively for self-identified women and their children.Our kitchen service is a crucial service at the Drop-In Centre and Emergency Night Shelter and is fundamental in helping staff build trusting relationships with women. Our meals are the impetus for women entering the Centre, allowing us to provide nourishment in a welcoming environment, combatting malnutrition and social isolation. DEWC serves up to 500 hot, nutritious meals every day.We are now experiencing unprecedented challenges with the increasing growth in homelessness, addiction, and violence for women who live in extreme poverty and the deficit of services and support specific to women’s needs. Many of our programs including our food service operate on a funding shortfall, which means if funds are not sufficiently raised, cuts could occur, directly impacting women who rely on these services. As we seek to meet pressing needs, we are bolstered by the vibrant personalities and resilience of the women we serve.
