Changing the Ways Canadians Tackle Hunger

Posted on

In today’s age of countless choices and instant gratification, the decisions we make and the actions we take often occur at the click of a button. Something as simple as buying groceries can now be done online, and then they’re delivered right to our door. With the world at our fingertips, it’s easy for us to take the simplest of things for granted.

For many of us, when we want something, we buy it. If we’re at home and we’re hungry, we head to our kitchen for something to eat. However, for the more than 800,000 Canadians who visit food banks across Canada every month, buying food to feed themselves and their families is not so easy.

Purolator Tackle Hunger

In 2003, Purolator employees came across the hunger statistics in Canada and were astounded by the impact of hunger in a country like ours. From there, the Purolator Tackle Hunger® (PTH) program was born – bringing together Purolator employees, partners, agents and customers, along with food banks across Canada and fellow Canadians, to collect donations and help raise awareness of the issue of hunger in Canada.

As with any social cause, participation propels progress. This year, as part of PTH Week (June 2 to 6, 2014), Purolator partnered with CanadaHelps.org to explore new avenues for Canadians to help alleviate hunger in Canada. During PTH Week, Purolator small business customers were given the exclusive opportunity of making a donation online, and starting July 16, Purolator is extending this opportunity – to donate at purolatortacklehunger.com to a choice of 18 food banks across Canada – to all Canadians.

PTH Week marks the beginning of the annual PTH program, through which Purolator hosts PTH Game Day Food Drives at nine Canadian Football League (CFL) games and select professional soccer games across Canada. At these games, fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items or a cash donation to help support their local food banks. Since its inception, the PTH program has helped deliver the equivalent of more than 6.5 million pounds of food to food banks across Canada.

At Purolator, we believe in going the distance to deliver promises, and we are committed to helping alleviate hunger in the communities in which we operate. From the field to your fingertips, thanks to CanadaHelps.org, the PTH program will only gain more momentum to help the many Canadians affected by hunger.
