Eastern Afghanistan requires urgent disaster relief following a 6.0 magnitude earthquake that struck towns in the province of Kunar on August 31st, with several aftershocks following. Nearly 48 hours later, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake shook the same region.<\/span>

\nOn September 4th, the death toll surpassed 2,200, with more than 3,600 people reported injured, and many still trapped under rubble, as a third 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck. Villages have been flattened, 6,700 homes destroyed, and 84,000 survivors are in distress, requiring global aid.<\/span>
\n
\n\u201cThis adds death and destruction to other challenges, including drought and the forced return of millions of Afghans from neighbouring countries,\u201d explained Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.<\/span>
