1.5 million Canadians live with vision loss. 14.5% are unemployed1

Our world was not built for the low vision community.

Pertinent information that enables people with vision to navigate their surroundings are typically inaccessible for people with low vision. And as our technology becomes more sophisticated, the necessary standards for low vision inclusivity are not being met in a timely fashion.

Given the low vision community’s high unemployment and underemployment rates – which in some cases is due to stigma, hefty price tags for assistive technology keep critical resources out of reach for many.

Improving the lives of people with sight loss

In Canada and around the world, there are millions of people with sight loss who with the right tools can do amazing things. Understanding the challenges people with legal blindness face, Canadian charities are offering life-changing services that allow many people with low vision to fully participate in society and partake in activities of daily living. This includes increasing access to braille resources and vision-enhancing technologies, guide dogs, vision treatment, funding research, and much more.
