Extreme flooding in India’s southern region of Kerala has left more than 350 people dead, and 800,000 displaced—the worst flood they’ve experienced in a century. Rescue efforts are still underway in some areas and relief centres need urgent aid.
Monsoon season has brought unprecedented downpours leading to flooding and landslides in India’s southern state of Kerala. As of August 21st, over 350 have been killed and 800,000 are without homes.

Starting on August 8th, India’s southern region of Kerala has seen significant rainfall, which has since led to increasingly severe flooding and landslides. As of August 21st, there are 800,000 people who have been displaced, over 350 dead, and more than 2,000 relief camps are set up to shelter 314,000 displaced people.
Rescue teams are currently responding and searching for those who have been trapped and stranded by the rising waters.
Urgent support and donations are needed to provide temporary food, shelter, medical assistance and ongoing relief efforts.

Hundreds of troops, and dozens of boats and helicopters are helping to evacuate people from what officials say is the worst flooding there in a century.
Many people are still believed to be trapped on rooftops of flooded homes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier flew over the worst-hit sites and met state officials to discuss the crisis.
There are fears the situation may get worse with more heavy rain and strong winds forecast over the weekend.
