At St. Mary Magdalene’s everyone is invited to pray, to sing, to bless, to proclaim, to worship in community that gathers in response to Jesus’ invitation to “Come and see.” (John 1:39)
Anglicans often point to worship as their statement of belief. The most distinctive elements of worship at St. Mary Magdalene’s are that we gather in a circle around the altar and after the homily we share a time of reflection. Lay people participate actively in the service through reading, leading the prayers of the people, and as liturgical assistant. We value everyone’s contributions.
At St. Mary Magdalene’s we place a high value on beauty, transforming our multi-purpose room into space that is sacred but not stuffy, traditional yet contemporary. We find more beauty in our music, which includes traditional hymn tunes with news words that reflect our inclusive, justice-oriented theology. We often sing without accompaniment–and sometimes in parts–having discovered that we don’t need to be professional singers to make beautiful sounds.
Children are welcome in our gatherings. We understand their need to move and play. Toys and books are available for play and pleasure. Nursing mothers and babies are welcome.
We also walk with people through important milestones such as celebrating a birth, baptism, confirmation, marriage and funerals. We affirm LGBTQ2S+ marriage.
