Pragmatic Organization Dynamic Display (PODD)
PODD is a tool providing organized vocabulary that enables users to communicate spontaneous and unpredicted messages. PODD communication books are designed for varying language, communication, sensory and physical access needs.
PODD communication books can assist people with significant communication challenges to support their understanding of language and their use of expressive language.
PODD training, a two-day course, will demonstrate the use of a Pragmatic Organization Dynamic Display approach to AAC developed by Gayle Porter of Melbourne, Australia. Generic templates for multi-page “light tech” communication books have been carefully designed to support genuine communication for a variety of functions throughout the day. The templates may be customized for a range of access methods and other individual needs. Participants will receive a training manual (printed by host, PDF provided by Taylor Educational Consultants) and hands-on practice with PODD communication books.
*Introductory workshop is a prerequisite for the 5 day advanced workshop.
Participants in the course will learn
• Strategies for teaching and using PODD with children and their communication partners.
• Strategies for creating multi-modal language learning environments that provide receptive models and expressive opportunities for language development
