Our Mission

1. Address the issues racialized and Indigenous girls and women face in regards to discrimination, racism and exclusion in the region of Southern Vancouver Island (Victoria to Duncan). Members will have an opportunity to explore their experiences of racialization in a safe and nurturing space and also be provided a forum for members to share and inform the public. Using various mediums such as educational presentations, community showcases (theatre, photography, art, etc), workshops and participation in community and academic research projects to advance education and social society.

2. To provide training and skill development to address the cross-cultural barriers racialized and Indigenous girls and women face in obtaining the necessary skills to prepare for a career. Workshops will support cultural and language development; understanding of human rights related to discrimination; development of girls’ leadership to increase girls’ self-esteem; and career exploration. To ensure the relevance and usefulness of the training, our members will identify all skills training. Examples of training: life skills, leadership training, public speaking, financial planning, cross-cultural mediation, and educational support.

3. To increase the psychological and social well being of racialized and Indigenous women and girls by providing a network of support through our Gurlz club, Women’s Discussion Series, International Girls club, and various initiative facilitated by our members. To also link them to the necessary and skilled service providers who are trained in cross-cultural communication, counseling and mediation.

5. To promote the broader visibility and needs of racialized minority and Indigenous women and girls in the greater community through project showcases, public awareness workshops and presentations in schools, service provider organizations (social agencies) working with racialized and Indigenous girls and women.

About ANTI-DOTE: MULTI-RACIAL GIRLS AND WOMEN'S NETWORK

A volunteer-based organization in Greater Victoria engaged in building a network of racialised and Indigenous women and girls ages 9 and up representing diverse ages, ethnic and religious backgrounds, professions and affiliations in the community. Anti-DOTE stands for a remedy to:

Discrimination

Oppresion

Tyranny

Exclusion

The foundation of our organization centers on the network of Doting Aunties (30 yrs and up) who mentor and support our GURLz (9 to 18 yrs) and SISTAHS (19-29yrs) to develop leadership and practical skills as they work together to voice their concerns. Using innovative and participatory action programs, Anti-dote works to address issues commonly experienced by racialised, Indigenous, marginalized, Canadian born, immigrant and refugee girls and women. Youth led initiatives bring light to themes around race, gender, socio-economic class and how these issue affect them in the education system, the media, community services and our nation.
