For the past 10 years, Kate has worked in the environmental consulting field contributing to environmental impact assessments for large, industrial projects in the natural resource sector, such as mining, transportation, hydro-electric, transmission line, and forestry. The majority of her consulting work has entailed technical field expertise and report writing for multiple wildlife species in forested and tundra environments in British Columbia, Alberta, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and recently in Sweden. A large majority of her consulting work consists of conducting songbird and raptor nesting surveys as well as waterfowl and shorebird inventories.
Kate is a self-proclaimed bird-nerd and her love of raptors encouraged her to pursue a Masters of Science in Wildlife Toxicology at Simon Fraser University. She is currently working on completing her thesis which focuses on bioaccumulation of persistent organic pollutants within a terrestrial food-web of an avian top predator, the Cooper's hawk. Kate aims to finish her thesis and graduate this spring.
While pursuing her Masters, Kate was also enrolled in a 3 year, 800 hour Vijnana yoga teacher training that she completed in October 2016. For over 20 years, Kate has been a long time yoga practitioner and even completed a 200 hour Ananda yoga teacher training when she was still in high school. She now regularly teaches yoga for adults and adolescents with the North Vancouver Recreation & Culture Commission.
