Over the past 40 years, the supportive physical and social space provided by CommunityWise has allowed hundreds of organizations, most of whom are small grassroots and nonprofit groups, to undertake their programs and activities with the stability and flexibility necessary for maximum impact.
Here’s the thing -- at our core, we're a small nonprofit supporting other small nonprofits. As our unique, historic, storied building grows forever older, the costs to operate it increase. While the bulk of our revenue for the day-to-day running of the building comes from our AMAZING members through office and room rentals, we also require donations in order to not only survive, but THRIVE.
Your donation enables these members to put more of their own financial resources directly toward their important work. A 2015 study by the Nonprofit Centers Network (NCN) found that the cost savings and stability afforded to nonprofits from being located in a shared space are most often re-directed to increased existing program-related spending. Other uses include increased staffing and the development of new services/programs (State of the Shared Space Sector Survey, p. 3).
A donation to CommunityWise supports the continued provision of subsidized space, shared services + collaboration for small Calgary nonprofit & grassroots groups (90 members, 1500+ peer support sessions/workshops/communityfeasts/performances/classes/brainstorming meetings a year.
For the next SIX WEEKS (until December 1), we’ll be providing an opportunity for you to learn more about our shared home. Each time $250 is raised, we’ll reveal a hidden secret or charm about the building on CommunityWise’s social media platforms with a story attached to it. Donors will also be emailed updates containing these reveals. Donors will additionally be invited to a wrap-up celebration in December or January.
