After 35 years of growth in the Cowichan Valley, the Cowichan Intercultural Society is carrying out a capital building campaign to build a new intercultural welcome centre for the Cowichan Valley, and this multicultural dance-a-thon will be our principal 2017 fundraising event.  In celebration of the many cultures and diverse backgrounds in our region, we invite community members to register individually or as a team for this eight hour event filled with live multicultural music, family activities, vendors, cultural expos, and tons of fantastic prizes! It's up to you how much you want to dance, there is no obligation to dance for the entire event, dance as much or as little as you want.

The participation fee for this event is $5 for individuals or $20 for a team of up to six individuals.  The participation fee allows access to the dancing area of the event for the entire day, entry into various raffles for great prizes, and light snacks and refreshments throughout the day.  Participants are encouraged to get as many pledges as possible, through this online platform as well as traditional cash pledges, and all funds raised during this event will go directly to the capital campaign for a new intercultural welcome centre in the Cowichan Valley.  Participants who reach pre-set pledge levels will be directly entered into draws for prizes - the more you raise, the more chance you have to win!

The event will take place on May 13th, 2017 at the Charles Hoey Park in downtown Duncan, British Columbia (between Canada and Duncan streets).  From 10am-6pm a variety of multicultural musicians, musical groups, and dance groups will take the stage to lead participants in dancing.  Participants can dance as much or as little as they want during the eight-hour event.  Performers include:

Masimba Marimba, Salsa Rueda, Zumba, Sinbad (Carlson’s School of Dance), Chen Yu Tai Chi, Warmland Dance, Cowichan Valley International Folk Dancers, Cowichan Valley Belly Dancing, MoonDance Dynamic Arts, Highland Dancers, & the Fiesta Latina Dancers

During the event, only participants will have access to the main dancing area in front of the stage, and spectators will be free to watch the event from outside this area and enjoy the festivities.  There will be a variety of prizes awarded to participants including entry into various raffles (the more you fundraiser, the more entries you will get into the raffle). Top prizes include:

BC Ferries Tickets, Encoure Limousine Trip, Tickets to Chemainus Theatre “Rock Legends," Highlight Studio Portrait Session, & gift certificates from Panago, the Duncan Garage, Red Arrow, Just Jakes, Craig St. Brewing, BC Forest Discovery Centre, and more!
