The IHS raises funds and finds strategic partners in order to offer a valuable service to the community and Nunavut as a whole. Pet owners are in constant need of assistance and so are dogs and cats that no longer have an owner and need our care.
Our biggest expenses are funding for staff, which costs on average $55,000 per year, and veterinary costs, especially emergencies and special cases, which costs in the range of $28,000 and $46,000 annually depending on the cases and the severity of the injuries/illness. Without staff we would not be able to bring in the number of animals that we do and many would suffer or be destroyed as a result.
We get calls day and night and we try to be as responsive as possible. We often get overwhelmed with animals and our shelter fills up quickly and frequently.
For such a small group running on a shoestring budget and in constant need of fundraising we do a lot! and we make do with what we have and do our best to grow, learn, and love.
Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to help those who cannot help themselves.
