The first Festival of Events was held last September 2015, with 18 faith group exhibits, two panel discussions, several performances and films on a day full of learning and discovery. It is wonderful to have all in the same room the representatives from the Unitarian Church, which was across the Atheist table, to hear a performance of songs from the Baha'i community, and hear a panel representative from the Islam and Falun Dama faith. With the aim of fostering a greater awareness and appreciation of Edmonton’s faith diversity, Festival of Faiths will be a safe, inclusive and welcoming space for Edmontonians of all backgrounds to reflect on faith diversity, community and compassion
This year, we aim to have a larger event with more faith groups represented through exhibit booths, more workshops, family-friendly activities and speakers over the series of two days. And that's where we need your help. With a larger event comes larger operating expenses for marketing, supplies, honourariums and gifts for the event's participants.
The event is free and open to the public so please come to the Boyle Street Plaza on September 25, 2016. More details at http://festivaloffaithsedmonton.weebly.com/
We are raising funds to make this event a reality. Proceeds will go towards the operations of this year's event, and if we are fortunate to have a surplus, to ensure that this event happens every year.
The event schedule is as follows:
- Saturday, September 24, 2016 - a guest speaker from a faith group will be presenting a speech about a social issue that affects the community, sharing their insight from a faith perspective. Details will be announced soon.
- Sunday, September 25, 2016 - this will be a full-day festival where the public can come to celebrate, learn, experience and get to know about the different faith groups that are in the city. Details will be announced soon. Based on last year's event, there will be, exhibits from the faith groups, panels discussing various issues, opportunities to learn about faiths that are not as well-known, and lovely performances.
