The mission of Leduc & District Victim Asssistance Society is to provide a highly skilled, compassionate level of service to any victims of crime or tragedy, through dedicated staff and trained volunteers.
About LEDUC AND DISTRICT VICTIM SERVICES
Leduc & District Victim Services works in partnership with 5 RCMP detachments in 8 municipalities to assist victims of crime and tragedy. Since 2005 our annual number of new files has increased by more than 400%. The most common files are assaults, domestic assaults and sexual assaults. In 2007 we had more than 100 suicide and sudden death files. Well-trained volunteer Advocates also assist victims of harassment/stalking, dating violence, theft/fraud, property damage, homicides, abductions, fires and many other categories.
Volunteer Advocates are on call 24/7/365. Services are provided at no cost to people of all ages. Advocates provide immediate support, intervention and referrals to victims, witnesses and next of kin. Court preparation and accompaniment is available for people who need to testify. Although our program is partially funded by municipal and provincial grants, we rely heavily on private donations. Our Board of Directors and Victim Advocates are volunteers.
