Spring is a time of renewal, growth and new beginnings. Early blooms are emerging; the days get longer, brighter and warmer. We feel more energetic, and head outdoors into our beautiful community with renewed enthusiasm.
\r\nAs a mother of a busy 5 year old boy, there is lots of energy and excitement in my house!
\r\nAs the sun comes out and the days become longer and warmer, Grayson becomes excited to spend more time outside, play and zip around on his bicycle; just like other kids.
\r\n\r\n\r\nBut it wasn’t long ago that Grayson gave me the scare of my life.
\r\n
I’ll never forget that August night when I took Grayson to the Emergency Department. He was experiencing flu-like symptoms, but something was different. Small details only a mother would notice. Grayson’s eyes were a bit bloodshot and he had a small bump on the back of his neck.
\r\nAfter being admitted and undergoing many tests, Grayson was diagnosed with a rare blood infection called Kawasaki disease. If not treated properly Kawasaki can cause serious complications, including damage to coronary arteries, meaning long-term heart problems.
\r\nI’m so relieved and happy to say that Grayson is now in perfect health and thanks to the diligences of the doctors and nurses at our hospital, he is clear of any heart complications. I don’t know what would have happened to my son without them. I can’t express enough gratitude for the care we received during Grayson’s time at the hospital.
\r\nMaking a donation to the hospital gave me a chance to express my immense gratitude for the care we received, while ensuring others have access to, and receive the same quality of care that we did. That’s why your donation is so important.
\r\n\r\n\r\nWe often give it no thought at all, when we upgrade cell phones every two years or replace our water heater for efficiency. Our hospital is no different. The dedicated and caring staff need the best tools available to take care of us when we are sick.
\r\n
Your kind donations to the hospital help purchase urgently needed medical equipment, so that staff can diagnose and treat illnesses, resulting in better medical outcomes.
\r\nThis might mean replacing the 10 year old CT scanner for new technology and 60 percent less radiation, or the addition of the Central Fetal Monitoring System for Labour & Delivery that will provide nursing staff with real-time information allowing for early intervention when there is a concern.
\r\nWe are so lucky to have the hospital, medical equipment and programs we have, such as the MRI, digital x-ray and ultrasound, the GreenLight Laser for prostate surgery and the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit, close to home.
\r\nWithout your generosity, none of this would be possible.
\r\nPlease consider joining me and make a donation to our hospital today.
\r\nFrom my heart to yours,
\r\nKayley Gravelle
\r\nP.S. I urge to make your donation as soon as you possibility can. Together we can enhance our healthcare, close to home.

\r\nThese three words are important when you or a family member need medical care.
\r\nYou have cancer.
\r\nThose are the words Linda VanderSchaaf heard nearly four years ago from her family doctor.
\r\n“Until I needed my hospital to save my life, I didn’t recognize just how important it is to our community,” Linda reflects.
\r\nThis time of year Linda spends a lot of time reflecting on her cancer diagnosis.
\r\n“I was diagnosed in December 2012, just before Christmas. I started thinking about the worst case scenario,” she says. “Will this be my last Christmas with my family?”
\r\n“I am so grateful to be here today to spend another holiday season with my loved ones,” says Linda, who’s been in remission for three years!
\r\nIt is the generosity of our community – your generosity – that ensures we have access state-of-the-art medical equipment to help patients recover. Most importantly – you help ensure your hospital can care for patients, close to home.
\r\nClose to home is important when you’re diagnosed with cancer. Linda had countless blood tests, numerous CT scans, EKGs, MRIs, bone scans, mammograms and more, all here at NBRHC.
\r\n“Without the communities support of our hospitals equipment need, I would have spent a lot more time traveling for my care,” Linda reflects.
\r\nWill you join Linda in supporting your hospital?
\r\nNew CT Scanners are exposing patients to less radiation, and screening programs are helping your care team diagnose cancers sooner. Advances in surgical equipment are allowing for less invasive surgeries, helping patients recover quicker and with fewer complications.
\r\nBut none of this can happen without you.
\r\nConsider making a monthly donation like Linda. Your $20 or $100 monthly donation, quickly adds up to $240 or $1,200 each year, having an even greater impact on our hospital.
\r\nYou never know when you’ll need your hospital. Make sure it has the tools it needs when you do.

\r\nI was 29. My girls were two and five at the time.
\r\nAs I watched them open their presents I couldn’t help but think, “Will this be my last Christmas with my girls?”
\r\nThanks to the care I received at my hospital, I now feel hopeful that I have many more Christmases to look forward to with my husband and my daughters – and one day with my grandchildren.
\r\nI’m thankful I only had to travel to Sudbury once for a consultation. All of my care was provided in North Bay.
\r\nAfter the holidays, I underwent a single mastectomy. At my oncologist’s recommendation, I proceeded with chemotherapy. Because of my young age they wanted to treat the cancer aggressively and give me the best chance of having many more Christmases.
\r\nThis experience is why I’m asking you to make a donation this Christmas to the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation. Whatever the size of your gift, it will help purchase life-saving medical equipment to care for patients with cancer and other illnesses, close to home.
