READ Saskatoon addresses and supports the advancement of literacy and learning in our community. We provide access to a range of literacy services for adults and families through the work of staff, trained volunteers, and community partners.
About READ Saskatoon
READ Saskatoon is a volunteer literacy organization that provides services to adults, families, and community partners. With the help of trained volunteers, we have been providing confidential adult tutoring, family literacy, and financial literacy programs for over thirty five years throughout Saskatchewan. In addition to trained literacy tutors, we work with an additional 200 volunteers who provide support to our board of directors, outreach programs, financial literacy workshops and fundraising events.
- We believe everyone has the right to learn, regardless of age. Our oldest adult learner is 83. Our oldest tutor is 77.
- We believe strong literacy skills are not attained by chance. Last year, we collaborated to provide accessible programming in over 40 community locations.
- We believe communities have a right to responsive and effective literacy programs that are attended to with diligence. We are committed to measuring the effectiveness of our programs and training by tracking the long-term changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours.
- We believe lifelong learning habits contribute to strong and resilient communities. “Reading is not walking on the words; it's grasping the soul of them.” ? Paulo Freire
