Speed ScrabbleTM is a fast-paced variant of the popular board game, with some important differences:
- No board. Your team creates a grid on the table surface
- You do not play for point value. Instead, the object is to use all the tiles as quickly as possible.
In this tournament, there will be twelve teams of four people each competing for the title of “Speed ScrabbleTM Champion” and other prizes. Teams will have one complete set of tiles. This document includes instructions for how to play, as well as a tournament outline.
Each team receives free nachos, courtesy the University of Saskatchewan Students' Union executive. There's a cash bar. There are great prizes for the top fundraisers, and for first, second, and third place. Over the years, we have had teams of city councillors, MLAs, local authors, librarians, university administrators, students, and businesses playing.
This short event is a small fundraiser and awareness-building event for READ. Each team must raise at least $400 to enter, and those funds go directly to READ Saskatoon's programming.
See READ Saskatoon website for more info and to register.
This year the tournament will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Loius' Loft on the University of Saskatchewan Campus from 3:00 - 4:30 pm.
