The 2019 Saskatoon Community Foundation Cultural Gala continues its exploration of the four elements to bring you Earth Song, where we delve into origin stories of the formation of the planet – from Indigenous tales of “Turtle Island” to non-Indigenous creation myths – through song, dance and poetry. Our theme reminds us of the power of Mother Earth to feed us all – spiritually but also literally. Our menu will feature local flavours that ground us and connect us to the unique issues and opportunities of feeding the world, and our performances bring those flavours to life. A unique collaboration between Indigenous hip-hop artist Eekwol and classical music from Little Opera on the Prairie brings together seemingly divergent artforms for an unforgettable performance. Juno Award-winning fiddler Karrnnel joins their collaboration, supported by youth performers from St. Michael Community School. Through every detail of the evening, we sow the seeds of Reconciliation and watch them grow into an immersive and inspiring experience for all. We renew our relationship to the land, our commitment to care for it, our gratitude for all it provides. We invite you to join us.
