Ever wondered what the passover meal that Jesus shared with his disciples at the Last Supper looked like? This event will introduce you to the "Seder," the traditional Jewish celebration of Passover and its various symbols, songs, and foods. This fundraising event will also offer an opportunity for a tour of the sanctuary of Shaarey Shomayim, Thunder Bay's only synagogue ( Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children under 12 (participants will receive a $15 tax receipt for each adult ticket purchased). Please be advised that the synagogue does not have easy wheelchair access - please contact the organizer if you have any concerns about accessibility at this event.

We will read from the Haggadah (the traditional book for the Seder), connect its symbolism to parts of the New Testament, and finish with a simple vegetarian meal. As part of the Seder, there will be a chance to sample all of the ritual foods from the Seder table (matzah, bitter herbs, charoset, eggs).

Shaarey Shomayim, incorporated in 1908, is the only synagogue between Sault Ste Marie and Winnipeg, a distance of almost 1400km, and includes the only mikvah between Winnipeg and Toronto. Our unaffiliated congregation holds shabbat services and holiday celebrations. More than a hundred years old, Shaarey Shomayim is an important and historic part of Thunder Bay's cultural diversity.
