AANM is working on providing ongoing programming, projects and events that support artists in the community while Advancing Art AccessAble to the audience.
Deaf, MAD and disabled artists are a marginalized group who face challenges, like economic and social barriers because they are different. This is true for both the emerging or established artist. Barriers can be physical, mental or emotional. It is time the community steps up to make the world more AccessAble to all.
Audiences members and artists within the Deaf community, for example, face barriers trying to access workshops, enjoy performances or engage at the openings. For them to engage with the hearing world they are burdened to cover the expense of having an ASL Interpreter present. At AANM, when funding permits we can partner with other MARCC members and collaborate through inclusivity.
For the past decade, we have been focusing on the visual arts, but we are working to expand our network to include all artists that create dialogue within any art practice; theatre, dance, performative art and video etc.
