Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is a partnership with local communities to inspire a love of reading and learning among the nation's preschool children. The program provides a free, new and age-appropriate book each month to preschool children in participating communities by delivering the book through Canada Post to their home. Children can participate from birth to age five.
- The Dollywood Foundation of Canada provides the operational support and low-cost quality books. Local community partners promote their local Imagination Library and raise funds to cover the cost of the books and mailing. Partners include Rotary clubs, school systems, local governments, provincial and territorial governments, libraries, literacy organizations, and United Way.
- Communities of success include all Yukon's communities, Fort McMurray in Alberta, Brantford in Ontario, First Nation communities in Manitoba, Nova Scotia and British Columbia, and scores of communities all across the country. Currently, well over 21,000 preschool children in Canada have access to new, quality books each and every month.
- Each book is addressed to the child and most of the books also include title specific reading tips for the parents.
- Dolly's Imagination Library is most effective as the book gifting component of a comprehensive early childhood strategy, be it in a local community, across a province or throughout a nation.
You can help support the Imagination Library by sponsoring children in your community or in participating communities in Canada.
For as little as $5.00 per month or $50.00 a year you can offer a child and his/her family the Joy of Reading.
