Fr. Jack O’Brien, SJ
Fr. O’Brien, SJ worked in many capacities during his 70+ years in the priesthood. He is renowned for establishing the first Department of Communication Studies in Canada at Concordia University. He is also fondly remembered for his pastoral work at Manresa-Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Centre among other things.
Friends of the Jesuits
In 2015, Friends of the Jesuits was established by Fr. O’Brien to bring together like-minded individuals interested in broadening the work of the Jesuits, and to reflect
the international scope of the Society of Jesus. Today, Friends of the Jesuits are expanding the circle of friendship through events such as the Golf Classic.
Founded in 1540 by St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) is the largest order of priests and brothers in the Roman Catholic Church. There are almost 17,000 Jesuits serving the Church in 112 nations on six continents. The Jesuits have worked in Canada for more than 400 years. They have responsibility for the direction of schools, colleges, parishes, retreat houses, and social justice ministries that span the country from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Vancouver, British Columbia.
