The Golf Classic pays tribute to the late Jesuit Father John (Jack) O’Brien, SJ and to the many Friends of the Jesuits.

Fr. Jack O’Brien, SJ

Fr. O’Brien, SJ worked in many capacities during his 70+ years in the priesthood. He is renowned for establishing the first Department of Communication Studies in Canada at Concordia University. He is also fondly remembered for his pastoral work at Manresa-Jesuit Spiritual Renewal Centre among other things.

Friends of the Jesuits

In 2015, Friends of the Jesuits was established by Fr. O’Brien to bring together like-minded individuals interested in broadening the work of the Jesuits, and to reflect

the international scope of the Society of Jesus. Today, Friends of the Jesuits are expanding the circle of friendship through events such as the Golf Classic.

Founded in 1540 by St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) is the largest order of priests and brothers in the Roman Catholic Church.  There are almost 17,000 Jesuits serving the Church in 112 nations on six continents. The Jesuits have worked in Canada for more than 400 years. They have responsibility for the direction of schools, colleges, parishes, retreat houses, and social justice ministries that span the country from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Vancouver, British Columbia.

À propos de cet organisme

The Jesuit Development Office for the Jesuits in English Canada Province has as its primary mission to raise and provide funds necessary for the support of Jesuit brothers and priests in formation, and in their senior years.  This mission is only made possible through the kindness and generosity of our good friends and benefactors who support us in our work through their prayers and donations. The Jesuits, whether in formation, or in their later years, rely on the generosity of benefactors to support them. Through special events and donor activities, funds and awareness are raised for the Jesuits and their works. Thank you to our friends and benefactors for their continued support and generosity.
